Welcome Back

Welcome Back Patriots!

We have been working hard this summer to prepare for the 2023-24 school year. Below are some updates about enrollment and staff that we want you to stay informed about. Please read through this information carefully and call the office with any questions.

Grade & Teacher Assignments

  • Hillsdale Preparatory School uses enrollment to determine the makeup of each classroom. In the past few year, there have been several multi-age classrooms due to the size of many grades. You will see the same during the 2023-24 school year. Careful consideration is made when determining which grades should be combined based on the personalities of the students, and the curriculum content of  each grade level. Hillsdale Preparatory School's staff are skilled in planning instructional activities that meet the needs of individual students. I have the utmost confidence that ALL students will receive the educational opportunities that they deserve and are expected at Hillsdale Prep, regardless of the makeup of the classrooms.
  • Due to the resignation of a teacher over the summer, we currently have an opening for a classroom teacher for the 7th and 8th grade classroom. The job is posted and we are continuing to search for candidates. When that position has been filled, families of students in that class will be notified.
  • Below is a list of the 2023-24 staff assignments. Specific questions about your child's classroom can be directed to me via email or by scheduling a meeting. Annie.Fowler@Hillsdaleprep.

Drop off/Pick up Procedures

  • All students should arrive and will be dismissed through the main entrance using the front driveway. Car traffic will flow through the lane closest to the road during morning arrival. Hillsdale Preparatory School staff will be available to direct traffic. Please follow the directives of all staff and the posted signs during drop off and dismissal to ensure the safety of all students. More information about these procedures will be discussed during Open House.

Open House

  • This year's first day of school is August 22nd. Open House will take place on Monday, August 21st at 6pm. Please plan to meet in the gym promptly at 6:00. All staff will be introduced, then students will go with their teacher to visit their classroom. Parents should plan to stay in the gym for approximately 45 minutes to go over important information with Mrs. Fowler. A complete school calendar is enclosed. Please post it somewhere for reference throughout the year. The calendar can also be found on our website under Documents.

Dress Code

  • A copy of the dress code is included for your reference. Students may only wear items listed in the dress code, unless you have received special permission from the Head of School for an accommodation. This includes sweatshirts/sweaters that students intend to wear during the school day. Students not wearing proper uniform items will be sent to the office to change. If properly fitting clothing is not available, parents will be called.
  • We have a clothes closet with items available for $1 each. We encourage families to use this resource, especially as students outgrow clothing throughout the year. Please consider donating items that your child has outgrown, as sizing is currently limited.
  • Students in grades 4-8 change for PE. Please be sure that your student has the proper clothing on gym days so that they can participate in all activities and practice proper hygiene. These clothes should be taken home and washed often.

Volunteers for Clubs

  • Hillsdale Preparatory School intends to offer after school clubs again during the 2023-24 school year. Clubs are run by volunteers and can only be offered on days when we have adults available to oversee them. If you or someone you know is interested in running a club, please contact me vial email for more information and to sign up. Annie.Fowler@Hillsdaleprep.org
  • Clubs will continue to cost $5/club for the month and run from 3:45-5:00pm. Clubs will begin AFTER Labor Day and more information will be sent home the week of 8/28.

Special Education Waiver

  • Hillsdale Preparatory School has submitted a Waiver Request for the State of Michigan to increase the number of students allowable on the caseload of a special education teacher. This is due to the potential increase in the number of students requiring services in special education. We have already increased out special education teacher's hours from part-time to full-time. At this time, her caseload meets the standard set by the Sate. Application of this waiver is a precautionary measur3e to ensure that Hillsdale Prep continues to meet the needs of each student within our programs.

School Supplies

  • Enclosed is a list of supplies that your student will need in their classroom throughout the year. These items are specific to your child's class. Please make every attempt to gather all of the items listed. Should you have difficulty finding items or need financial assistance, please contact your child's teacher.
